Your privacy is important to us.  We have prepared this Privacy Policy to explain how we collect, use, and disclose personal information we obtain about you when you use the Extend website (“Site”), any Extend application programming interfaces, and other services offered by Extend (collectively, the “Services”).  This Privacy Policy also explains the measures we take to safeguard the personal information and the choices available to you regarding the information.  This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Services, unless otherwise expressly indicated.  The Services are provided by Extend, Inc. (“Extend”, “we”, “our”, “us”).

  1. Managing Your Information Preferences
    You may opt out of receiving marketing e-mails from us by using the unsubscribe link in the relevant email.  If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy, please e-mail us at privacy@extend.com.

  2. Information We Obtain

    We may obtain certain personal information about you that you choose to provide to us, including any information you choose to include in your account or in communications with us. We also collect personal information from merchants and partners who offer our protection plans on their websites or other distribution channels. The personal information we obtain includes:

    • Contact information, such as name, email and postal address, and phone number; 
    • Government-issued IDs (e.g., driver’s license number or passport number) for identity verification and anti-fraud purposes;
    • Information about the product covered by your Extend plan, such as the type of product, the product’s serial number, the date and amount of the purchase, and the manufacturer; 
    • Information about your Extend protection plan, such as your protection plan ID, the type of plan you purchased, and the duration and coverage of your plan;
    • Claims information, such as your claim ID, a description of the nature and cause of the issue with the product, and claim status and disposition;
    • Other personal information you provide to us, such as through emails, phone conversations, or online chats.

    Information We Obtain by Automated Means

    When you interact with our Services, we obtain certain information by automated means, such as cookies, web server logs, web beacons, and other technologies. A “cookie” is a small text file placed on your computer to identify your computer and web browser.  A “web beacon,” also known as an Internet tag, pixel tag or clear GIF, links web pages to web servers and cookies and may be used to transmit information collected through cookies back to a web server. We use these automated technologies on the Services to collect information about your devices, browsing actions, and usage patterns. The information we obtain in this manner may include the type of web browser you use, your device identification information, your IP address, the pages you view, and the time and duration of your visits to the Site.  We use this information to help us understand how people use the Services, and to enhance the Services we offer. These technologies help us (1) remember your information so you do not have to re-enter it; (2) track and understand how you use and interact with the Services; (3) tailor the Services around your preferences; (4) measure the usability of the Services and the effectiveness of our communications; and (5) otherwise manage and enhance our Services, and help ensure they are working properly. We also use these technologies as described in the ”Interest-Based Advertising” Section of this Privacy Policy.

     

    Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Please note, however, that certain features of the Services may not work if you delete or disable cookies.  

    Our Site is not designed to respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers.

      

    Third-Party Analytics Services

    Interest-Based Advertising

    You may see our ads on other websites because we use third-party ad services.  Through such ad services, we can tailor our messaging to users considering demographic data, users’ inferred interests and browsing context.  These services may track your online activity across different websites and apps and over time by collecting information through automated means, including through the use of cookies, web server logs, web beacons, and other similar technologies. The ad services use this information to show you ads that may be tailored to your individual interests. The information the ad services may collect includes data about your visits to websites and apps that serve Extend advertisements, such as the pages or ads you view and the actions you take on the websites or apps. This data collection takes place both on our Site and the websites of our affiliates and subsidiaries, and on third-party online services that participate in these ad services.  This process also helps us track the effectiveness of our marketing efforts.

  3. How We Use the Information We Obtain
    We use the personal information we obtain about you to:

    • Personalize your experience with our Services;
    • Increase and maintain the safety and security of our Services and prevent misuse;
    • Communicate with you (including providing you with offers and other communications about our Services) and provide customer support;

    • Operate, evaluate and improve our Services (including managing the Services, developing new services and offerings; enhancing and improving our Services; managing our communications; analyzing our Services; performing data analytics; and performing accounting, auditing and other internal functions); 
    • Protect against, identify and prevent fraud and other criminal activity, claims and other liabilities; and
    • Comply with and enforce applicable legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards, and our policies and terms.

    We also may use the information in other ways for which we provide specific notice at the time of collection, and obtain consent to the extent required by law.

  4. Information We Share

    We may share the categories of personal information we process about you (as described above) with certain third parties, in particular: 

    • Our affiliates and subsidiaries for the purposes of providing and administering our Services;  
    • Insurance companies and the merchant or partner from which you purchased a product to offer, provide and administer our Services. Your personal information will be handled by these parties in accordance with their respective privacy statements, and they will be independently accountable for managing and protecting the personal information they receive from us;  
    • Our service providers and other entities to perform certain services on our behalf, such as hosting and maintenance of our databases and Site, data storage and management, and marketing and promotions.  We do not authorize our service providers to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal and regulatory requirements.  

    In addition, we may disclose personal information (1) if we are required to do so by law or legal process (such as a court order or subpoena); (2) in response to lawful requests by government agencies, which may include lawful access by foreign courts, law enforcement and other government authorities in the jurisdictions in which we, our affiliates or our service providers operate; (3) to establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights; (4) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical or other harm or financial loss, or to protect the safety, property, or rights of Extend or of any third party; (5) in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity; or (6) otherwise with your consent.

    We reserve the right to transfer any personal information we have about you in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets (including in the event of a merger, acquisition, joint venture, reorganization, divestiture, dissolution, or liquidation).

    We do not sell personal information to third parties in exchange for monetary consideration. 

  5. Personal Information You Make Available to Others
    By using certain features of the Services you may make certain of your personal information available to others.  For example, when you post a service rating or a photo on the Site, other users may see your name (first name and last name initial), the city you live in and other information that you choose to make available to others.  Please be aware that whenever you share information on any public area of the Services, that information may be accessed by others.

  6. How We Protect Personal Information

    We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information we obtain through the Services against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use.

  7. Other Online Services and Third-Party Features
    For your convenience and information, our Services may contain links to other online services, and may include third-party features such as apps, tools, widgets, and plug-ins.  Our Services also may allow others to send you such links.  These online services and third-party features may be owned and operated by third parties that are independent of us.  A link to a third party’s online service or feature does not mean that we endorse it or that we are affiliated with it.  The information practices of the relevant third parties, including information they may collect about you, are subject to the privacy notices of these parties, which we strongly suggest you review.  We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any websites, apps or services that are not owned or controlled by Extend.

  8. Children’s Privacy
    The Services are intended for users who are of the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence.  We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 or such other age as may be directed by applicable law.  If we become aware that we have inadvertently received personal information from a child under the age of 13, or such other age as may be directed by applicable law, we will delete such information from our records.

  9. Data Transfers
    We, our affiliates and our service providers may transfer, access, store and otherwise process the personal information we collect about you outside of the jurisdiction in which you are located, including to other states or provinces in Canada or the United States and other foreign jurisdictions where we, our affiliates or our service providers are located. This may include transfers to other countries that may not have the same data protection laws as the country in which you initially provided the information.

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and without prior notice to you to reflect changes in our personal information practices.  We will indicate at the top of this Privacy Policy when it was most recently updated.

VIRGINIA PRIVACY RIGHTS

If you are a Virginia resident, you have the right to request access to, or correction or deletion of, your personal information.  You can exercise these rights, or appeal our decision with respect to a request you submitted, by emailing privacy@extend.com. You also have the right to opt out the processing of your personal information for purposes of targeted advertising.  You may exercise this right by clicking Your Privacy Choices.

CALIFORNIA CONSUMER PRIVACY STATEMENT

This California Consumer Privacy Statement (“Statement”) supplements the Extend Privacy Policy and applies solely to California consumers. This Statement does not apply to Extend personnel or job applicants.  

This Statement uses certain terms that have the meaning given to them in the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020) and its implementing regulations (the “CCPA”).

Notice of Collection and Use of Personal Information

We may collect (and may have collected during the 12-month period prior to the effective date of this Statement) the following categories of personal information about you:

  • Identifiers: identifiers such as a real name, unique personal identifier (such as a device identifier; cookies, beacons, pixel tags, mobile ad identifiers and similar technology; customer number, unique pseudonym, or user alias; telephone number and other forms of persistent or probabilistic identifiers), online identifier, internet protocol address, email address, driver’s license number, passport number and other similar identifiers;

  • Online Activity: Internet and other electronic network activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding your interaction with websites, applications or advertisements;
  • Sensory Information: audio, electronic, and similar information;
  • Inferences: inferences drawn from any of the information identified above to create a profile about you reflecting your preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.

We may use (and may have used during the 12-month period prior to the effective date of this Statement) your personal information for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy  and for the following business purposes specified in the CCPA:

  • Performing services, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, processing payments, providing financing, providing analytics services, providing storage, or providing similar services;
  • Providing advertising and marketing services;
  • Auditing related to counting ad impressions to unique visitors, verifying positioning and quality of ad impressions, and auditing compliance;
  • Short-term, transient use, including, but not limited to, non-personalized advertising shown as part of your current interaction with us;
  • Helping to ensure security and integrity to the extent the use of your personal information is reasonably necessary and proportionate for these purposes;
  • Debugging to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality;
  • Undertaking internal research for technological development and demonstration;
  • Undertaking activities to verify or maintain the quality or safety of a service or device that is owned, manufactured, manufactured for, or controlled by us, and to improve, upgrade, or enhance the service or device that is owned, manufactured, manufactured for, or controlled by us.

We do not collect or process sensitive personal information with the purpose of inferring characteristics about California consumers covered by this Statement.

To the extent we process deidentified information, we will maintain and use the information in deidentified form and will not attempt to reidentify the information unless permitted by applicable law.

Retention of Personal Information

We will retain your personal information for the period reasonably necessary to achieve the purposes described in our Privacy Policy and this Statement, or any other notice provided at the time of collection, taking into account applicable statutes of limitation and records retention requirements under applicable law.

We do not sell personal information in exchange for monetary consideration.  We may disclose your personal information by allowing certain third parties (such as certain online advertising services) to collect your personal information via automated technologies on our Services for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. You have the right to opt out of these types of disclosures of your information, as detailed in the “California Consumer Privacy Rights” section.

We may sell or share for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes (and may have sold or shared during the 12-month period prior to the effective date of this Statement) the following categories of personal information about you to online advertising services:

California Consumer Privacy Rights

You have certain choices regarding your personal information, as described below.

  • Access: You have the right to request, twice in a 12-month period, that we disclose to you the personal information we have collected, used, disclosed and sold or shared about you, including the categories of personal information collected, the categories of sources from which the personal information is collected, the business or commercial purpose for collecting, selling, or sharing personal information, the categories of third parties to whom we disclose personal information, and the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.  
  • Correction: You have the right to request that we correct the personal information we maintain about you, if that information is inaccurate.
  • Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete certain personal information we have collected from you.
  • Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: You have the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information or the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes.

To submit an access, correction or deletion request, please email us at privacy@extend.com.  To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, please click the Your Privacy Choices link or use the Global Privacy Control signal (“GPC”). If you use the GPC, we will process it for your browser, but it will not apply outside of that browser to your device. Verifying Requests.  

To help protect your privacy and maintain security, we will take steps to verify your identity before granting you access to your personal information or complying with your request.  If you have an account with us, we may verify your identity by requiring you to sign in to your account.  If you do not have an account with us and you request access to or deletion of your personal information, we may require you to verify your email address or certain of your information in our records, such as your name, email address, phone number, postal address and Extend contract ID number.  In addition, if you do not have an account and you ask us to provide you with specific pieces of personal information, we may require you to sign a declaration under penalty of perjury that you are the consumer whose personal information is the subject of the request.

 

Additional Information.

If you choose to exercise any of your rights under the CCPA, you have the right to not receive discriminatory treatment by us.  To the extent permitted by applicable law, we may charge a reasonable fee to comply with your request.

CANADIAN CONSUMER PRIVACY STATEMENT

This Canadian  Consumer Privacy Statement supplements Extend’s Privacy Policy and applies solely to residents of Canada.

Personal Information. Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) and provincial privacy laws (collectively, “Canadian Privacy Laws”) personal information means any information about an identifiable individual, which includes the information described above in this Privacy Policy as personal information.

Means of Collection.

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us (in store, online or through other communication channels) as well as information your devices provide to us automatically. Where permitted by applicable law, we may also collect personal information from third parties (such as insurance companies and the merchant or partner from which you purchased a product) or publicly available sources.

Consent.

By providing your personal information to us, you acknowledge that we may collect, use, disclose, retain and otherwise process your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. Under Canadian Privacy Laws, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time to our collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, subject to reasonable prior notice and applicable legal and contractual restrictions. Data Retention. Except as otherwise permitted or required by Canadian Privacy Laws or other applicable Canadian laws or regulations, we will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Under some circumstances we may anonymize your personal information so that it can no longer be associated with you, and we may use such anonymous data for any legitimate business purpose without further notice to you or your consent.

Privacy Governance Policies and Practices: We are committed to protecting your personal information and have implemented policies and practices that govern our treatment of personal information, including:

  • Designated roles and responsibilities in connection with handling personal information in our custody and control;
  • Policies and procedures regarding the protection of personal information, including safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss or theft and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, and modification;

2. Renseignements que nous recueillons

Renseignements obtenus par voie automatisée

Lorsque vous interagissez avec nos Services, nous obtenons certains renseignements par des moyens automatisés, comme les témoins, les journaux de serveurs Web et les pixels invisibles. Un témoin est un petit fichier de texte qui est stocké sur votre ordinateur pour identifier votre navigateur Web et votre appareil. 4. Renseignements que nous communiquons

8. Protection des renseignements personnels des enfants
Les Services sont destinés aux utilisateurs qui ont atteint l’âge de la majorité dans leur territoire de résidence. Nous ne recueillons pas intentionnellement de renseignements personnels auprès d’enfants âgés de moins de 13 ans ou d’enfants de tout autre âge, conformément à la législation applicable. Si nous apprenons que nous avons recueilli par mégarde des renseignements personnels sur un enfant âgé de moins de 13 ans ou sur un enfant de tout autre âge, conformément à la législation applicable, nous supprimerons ces renseignements de nos dossiers.
